October 2020 Newsletter | It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!

Hello Friends,

I'm reporting to you from a home that smells strongly of pumpkin. Pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cream cheese, pumpkin butter. Fall is real here in Nashville, y'all.

Like I mentioned last month since I'm new to Nashville I'm new to seasons. I DIG IT. Recently, a friend of mine said "a new season is a new chance to reset."

I need it and I feel it.

For some reason, everything suddenly feels new.

October is always my favorite. I go nuts over Halloween in the way some folks go nuts over Christmas. I love horror movies, spooky music, black nail polish, and suspenseful stories. I also have absolutely no problem eating a bucket of candy in one sitting. I can really let my freak flag fly high in October.

How are y'all doing? What is bringing you comfort during this time? Are you into the pumpkin thing? I love hearing from you, so please feel free to respond to this email. I'd love to know what is going on in your life.

Love,
Jaimee

NOTE: I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED

YOU GUYS. I started having an issue with my email account several weeks ago. I thought the issue was only that I was no longer able to send emails from certain accounts. I've been working on resolving this issue for weeks. Last night, I finally got it all sorted and THOUSANDS of emails poured into my inbox. When I saw these emails I realized that SO MANY OF YOU HAVE REPLIED TO THIS NEWSLETTER AND I NEVER EVER GOT YOUR EMAIL. THIS MAKES ME EQUAL PARTS SAD AND ANGRY. Thank you to everyone who has replied and sent adorable YouTube videos, heartfelt stories, photos of your crafts, links to your songs, and pictures of your children. I love it all. Please try again and I promise you will receive a response from me this time.

UPCOMING SHOWS (VIRTUAL & 3D)

#FOLKLIFEBALANCE

folk+life+balance+jaimee+harris+folk+alliance.jpg

My friends at Folk Alliance asked me to share some things I'm doing to keep my folk life balanced during this time. Here's what I shared!

• Daily Meditation Practice: I start off my day with meditation. My friend Jaime Wyatt recently turned me onto a great mediation app called "1 Giant Mind" that I love, but there are plenty of options! Even RZA has a meditation series on Spotify. The key for me, as a workaholic/email addicted person, is to NOT start the day with email. I start the day with meditation and then read for the remaining hour.⠀⠀

• Time Blocking: I'm an extreme person. I will work 22 out of 24 hours if I have the chance. I've found time blocking has seriously helped me set boundaries around work while also allowing me to prioritize things that nurture my mind, body, spirit, and creative life. It's helped me be far more productive, too!⠀⠀

• Get Moving: I alternate between hiking a five-mile nature trail here in Nashville and working out with a Camp Gladiator trainer on Zoom. This practice has helped me to build my confidence, sleep better, and reduce anxiety.⠀

• Brain Food: I'm a podcast FREAK. I listen to a podcast every day while cleaning. My recent favorites are Radio Rental, It Was Said, Hope Through History, and everything by Crime Story Media. Great stories help my writing!⠀⠀

• Stay Connected: Recovery meetings, Zoom game nights, and friendly check-ins. Staying in touch with friends in any way possible has helped me keep things between the lines and stay inspired.
