June 2020 Newsletter | Let’s Talk About Vulnerability
Hello Friends,
Last Sunday, I cried on a live stream. Michele Gazich played an instrumental version of my unrecorded song "The Fair and Dark Haired Lad." As a songwriter, having another artist cover your song is one of the highest honors. I was so overcome with emotion that I could not contain it. For a second I thought to myself, oh my goodness this is so embarrassing! But my second thought was, oh no this is just so human! We're all dealing with immense amounts of swirling emotions and grief. We are grieving lost loved ones, lost jobs, lost connections, and lost sense of security in various forms.
Any time I'm struggling with something I can't make sense of in my head, I turn to songwriting. It's helped me make sense of trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and difficult relationships. I'm able to share in song what I am not able to speak. By sharing these songs I connect to others and it helps me feel less alone.
The greatest leaders know that courage comes from vulnerability. Tomorrow (Saturday, May 30th) I'll be discussing the topic of vulnerability and how it applies to songwriting in a very special online songwriting workshop. I'll be co-hosting the workshop with my friend Becky Warren. Becky is a Nashville based singer-songwriter who has spent the past several years touring with the Indigo Girls. ALL ARE WELCOME. The workshop is pay-what-you-can-afford! Maybe you're a pro songwriter looking for new inspiration? Or you've got a couple of records under your belt, looking to go deeper? Perhaps you've never even written a song, but you'd like to know more about the process. Please join us tomorrow at 2 PM CDT! You can enroll here: https://bit.ly/JaimeeBeckyWorkshop

Jaimee

SONGS I (CO)WROTE LIVE STREAM
Thank you so much for tuning in to the Red Rescue and Songs That Made Me live streams! On June 6th, I'll be performing a selection of songs I co-wrote! Some of these songs are fan favorites (ahem, "Fine" written with Bonnie Whitmore). A lot of them have been recorded by other artists (including the soon-to-be-released Sam Williams single...yes, THAT Williams family). Several have not yet been played live by me, so this will be TONS of fun! If you have any questions before the stream, please submit them to jaimee@folkhelper.com. Then, tune in on Facebook. Saturday, June 6th, 3 PM, CDT. Thanks for listening!
While you're waiting, please enjoy this playlist of a selection of songs by my frequent co-writers.
