September 2020 Newsletter | Do You Want To Be The First To Know?

I wore a sweater this week. I'm still new to Nashville and new to seasons. Actual seasons. Everything around us is telling us we are going into fall. Can you believe it?

Mary and I are starting to go a little crazy around here, but we're making good progress. After seven years, Mary has finally finished her debut book! And [drumroll] I have finally finished the songs for a brand new record.

There's a lot I want to share with you all about the process, fighting through two years of writer's block, wresting with editing a song for three years, and small victories. I also have some new, unreleased songs to share with you exclusively. So, I'm launching the very first, very pinball-themed Folk N' Roll Fan Club! There are already some writings and one song ("On the Surface" feat. Eliza Gilkyson on BGVS) waiting for you there. National Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with mental and substance use disorders to live healthy and rewarding lives. #3: Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month
It's been a little over five years since my thyroid surgery. It took several doctors and a lot of hard fighting to get my diagnosis. Women, especially, are told often that they're imagining their symptoms. If you feel like something is wrong, keep fighting to get answers. Thyroid cancer is typically treatable if found early. So, here's your friendly reminder to get your neck checked! For more info about thyroid cancer and what you can do to raise awareness, check this out.

'RED RESCUE' RELEASE DATE IN THE NETHERLANDS 

I'm happy to announce that Red Rescue will be officially released in The Netherlands on September 18th via MARS Worldwide! I wish I could be touring over there right now, but we'll come up with something fun for release day virtually. 

WHAT I'M DIGGING

Cashew on a diet. 

Cashew is all of us right now. There is never enough breakfast and ice cubes do not count as snacks. That is some Grade A bullshit. 

Garrett Owen, "Quiet Lives,": Pre-orders are available now for the new Garrett Owen record! This will be officially released on September 18th. I absolutely loved working with Garrett on his self-titled record and was honored to be asked to lend my voice to several tracks on this new collection of songs. Garrett has been one of my absolute favorite songwriters to sing and work with for nearly a decade. Don't sleep on this record.

Bonnie Whitmore, "Last Will & Testament,":  Also due September 18th is the first radio single from Bonnie Whitmore's upcoming LP. I'm excited to announce that it will be "Fine," which we co-wrote in 2015. The song has been a regular in my set, Bonnie's, and even BettySoo's. Here's to hoping this little song goes out into the world and makes us proud. Fly, little pop jam, fly.

My sweet, Woody Guthrie loving friend Nellie Clay has released a powerful music video for her new song "Good Women." Pro tip: have tissues nearby.

My buds Jane (Jane Ellen Bryant) and Daniel (Leopold and His Fiction) have teamed up for a really fun, unique musical project. Right now, they're releasing songs, videos, and recipes exclusively on Patreon. Check 'em out!

Kathleen Edwards, "Total Freedom": She's back! I'm absolutely loving the new record from Kathleen Edwards. I always find her records to be super inspiring. Kris Nelson agrees, and his opinions are right.
