July 2019 Newsletter | High Scores, Rainbow Capes, And Woody Guthrie

Hello Friends,

Summer is here! June was so great to us for so many reasons. I ate tacos with my friend Miette Lorriane in Texas, celebrated Michele Gazich's birthday in Boston's Chinatown, reunited with my dear friend BettySoo in the oldest meeting house in Vermont (the reverb in this place gets ten gold stars), scored the high score on the Iron Maiden pinball machine in Hampton Beach, NH, hung out with my friends Kalu & the Electric Joint in Nashville, sang "Strawberry Wine" with Matraca Berg in the mountains of North Carolina, and rode on the back of a motorcycle in the NYC pride parade. NOT A BAD MONTH.

But I spend all year looking forward to five days in July. Why? WoodyFest -- that's why! For one week a year, songwriters from all over the world gather in Okemah, OK to celebrate the life, legacy, and music of Woody Guthrie. There's only one hotel in Okemah, so all of the artists stay in one place. This results in MAGICAL parking lot singalongs like you wouldn't believe. This year, I'm honored to bring my full band to the fest for the first time! I'll also be performing as part of the Wednesday night "Woody and Pete Jamboree" at the Crystal Theatre AND speaking on a panel about protest songs. If you haven't made the trek to Okemah, this would be a great year to come hang out with me at this one-of-a-kind festival!

I'm also looking forward to spending a few weeks in Texas at the end of the month. I can't wait to hop in Barton Springs and sing songs for the folks in the Lone Star State! I'm grateful to have the opportunity to bring my band along with me. You can help support our upcoming tour by placing an order at our store. Right now, Folk 'N Roll T-Shirts and handwritten lyrics are ON SALE.

Thank you to all of the kind folks in Austin, TX, St. Paul, MN, Chicago, IL, Bellows Fall, VT, and Portsmouth, NH for coming out to hear us in your cities! We sure loved playing for you and hope to see you again sooner than later!

I hope things are great wherever you are this month! You can always reply to this e-mail to let me know how things are going in your world. I love hearing from you guys.

Love,
Jaimee
